About the event

"Whiria te Tangata - Weaving the People Together for a shared sense of place and belonging for all"

You are invited to the We Empower Us Summit where you will join many key and diverse stakeholders to bring this youth wellbeing priority to life through collaboration for cohesive action. Attendees will include: Youth Focus Groups and Principals, Community Organisations and Networks, Council and Ministerial reps, and Parents.

YOUTH WELLBEING & YOUTH VOICE ARE THE HEART OF THE PROJECT

Youth Focus Groups from Murrays Bay Intermediate + Rangitoto College have workshopped and prepared presentations and polls to gain the collective voice of their peers at school to identify the top collective priority(s) for youth wellbeing. With responses from close to 700 students, "Whiria te Tangata - Weaving the People Together for a shared sense of place and belonging for all" is both their top collective priority for youth wellbeing and is the focus for the We Empower Us Summit on 20th August. Northcross Intermediate has joined in the project, with representatives coming to the Summit. They are supported in this project by their peers and the School Management Team.

YOUTH WELLBEING = EVERYONE'S WELLBEING

When a community comes together to generate positive designs for their wellbeing through this Appreciative Inquiry approach, it is building an inspired and connected collective that has the capacity to create sustainable influence and change. The We Empower Us Summit is a one-day collective approach event that is strategic, strengths-based, future-focused, and inspired for action.

A bit about the picture we chose for the event, and why we think it is perfect:

The drawing is by Anja Rozen, a 13 year old primary school student in Slovenia. She was chosen from 600,000 children around the world to create a piece of art to show what peace looks like. She is the winner of the international Plakat Miru competition.

“My drawing represents the land that binds us and unites us.” Humans are woven together. If someone gives up, others fall. We are all connected to our planet and to each other, but unfortunately we are little aware of it. We are woven together. Other people weave alongside me my own story; and I weave theirs," said the young designer.
